Hello 2017! The year, when the New Patriotic Party comes back into power, digital media is taking off, Duncan-Williams prayed at the Trump pre-inauguration ceremony, and what else? And all this is just January!
So far, the news making the headlines so early this year are beyond wild, and with the way the trends are going, it is about to get even crazier.
But let's take a look back, say 10 years ago, and see what really got Ghanaians talking:
1. Ghana at 50. Ghana celebrated it's 50th anniversary or Golden Jubilee of Independence and it was quite the celebration. From the many history lessons, the beautiful show of patriotism by all, it is certainly one of the most memorable celebrations that brought of Ghanaians at home, and abroad together as one happy country.
2. The discovery of oil. Black Gold. It was quite the buzz when Ghana discovered oil fields off our coast, with enough oil to land us in the league of oil-producing companies. The 'Golden Jubilee' fields brought oil investors and certainly stamped Ghana's name on the map.
3. The re-denomination of the Cedi. Due to the decline in the value of the Cedi in the 2000s, the Bank of Ghana decided there was a need to redenominate the country's currency, which saw the conversion of several thousands of cedis to one Ghana cedi. This was quite confusing for a while, if you'd recall, but we adjusted quickly, one might say.
4. TV3 launches Ghana's Most beautiful pageant. The maiden edition of the Ghana's most beautiful pageant was initiated in 2007, a first of its kind. The Ghana's Most Beautiful pageant was not like all the other pageants, as this one was more culturally and traditional inclined and sought to display the rich culture of the 10 regions of Ghana.
