Daniel Bugri Naabu, the Northern Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party has said that he will donate the vehicle he allegedly received as a bribe from former president Mahama, to charity.
The vehicle, according to Mr Naabu was presented to him by former president Mahama during the 2016 election campaign period, so he would resign from the party and slander the then party's flag bearer.
Speaking in an interview with Joy FM, the NPP chair however, failed to disclose his intentions with the alleged GHC 500,000 he received from the ex-president as part of the incentive to carry out the plot to embarrass the now president of Ghana.
At a ceremony to announce the new Regional Ministers at the Flagstaff House, Bugri Naabu announced the decision to give the vehicle to charity to Joy News.
"I cannot comment much but I think we are going to give it to charity. We are not going to use that car," he said.
He further stated that he will work closely with the Northern Region Minister designate to ensure peace in the Northern Region.
On November 29, 2016, in an NPP press conference addressed by Mustapha Hamid, the former President Mahama and his brother, Ibrahim Mahama were accused of presenting the vehicle to the NPP Northern regional chairman, as a form of incentive so he would resign from the party and then defame Nana Akufo-Addo by portraying him as an anti-Northerner person.
Mustapha Hamid presented documents pertaining to the vehicle, as proof of his allegations. The said documents indicated that the vehicle was transferred to Bugri Naabu by Malin Investment, a company owned by Hawa Mahama and Frank Alomasor, personal assistant to the ex-president.
Mr Naabu pretended to play along with the scheme only to report the matter to the party's flag bearer.
John Mahama and his brother have not responded t these allegations.
