The year 2017 has began on a sour note for tens of traders at the Sekondi Market in the Western Region after fire ravaged a large stretch of shops.

Eyewitnesses say goods running into several into thousands of Ghana cedis have been destroyed in the fire outbreak.

So far, it remains unclear what triggered the fire outbreak Tuesday evening in one of the biggest markets in the region as the timely intervention of personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service managed to prevent the fire from spreading to other shops.
