Akwa, who is currently the Chief of Army Staff of the Ghana Armed Forces, will be serving in an acting capacity until a new Council of State is constituted which will pave way for the president to consult for a substantive person, starrfmonline reported on Thursday.

Akwa used to be the Commandant of the Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre (KAIPTC) before former President John Mahama appointed him as Chief of Army Staff in July 2016.

Swearing the general in at the Flagstaff House, Mahama described Akwa him as a “smart, loyal and professional officer.”
