The Eastern Regional Hospital in Koforidua recorded out of the total 1, 389 patient deaths, 181 persons died due to Cerebrovascular Accident (CVA), or Stroke.
Stroke, according tho the Hospital heads have become the leading cause of deaths at the hospital, with a death toll of about 512 in three years.
Dr Kwame Anim Boamah, the medical director of the Eastern Regional Hospital addressing the media last Friday, disclosed that 79 patients reportedly died of other heart diseases, while out of the 3,652 patients that visited the hospital with hypertension cases, 1, 257 were admitted.
According to him, most patients who died of stroke visited the facility with very high blood pressure, previously visiting other traditional health facilities to use herbal medicines as alternative cure.
He further remarked that, bad lifestyle is the fundamental cause of cardiovascular diseases such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol levels, diabetes, Hypertension, all of which triggers stroke.
He therefore advised for a healthy living and regular medical check ups to prevent these diseases.
Dr. Boamah also noted that, HIV/AIDS,Chronic Liver Cirrhosis, Pneumonia, Birth Asphyxia, Kidney Diseases, Prostrate Cancer, Breast cancer, and Tuberculosis, Septic Shock, Septicemenia, Prematurity, eclamsia Meningitis, Head injury and Sickle cell, are the top 20 Causes of deaths.
