Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia on Monday showed up unannounced at the Tema Port in the Greater Accra Region.
This surprise visit makes it the second the Veep has embarked on to state agencies. He visited the Registrar-General’s Department to familiarise himself with the challenges facing the State outfit last week.
According to him, his visit is to obtain first hand information on the operations at the port and how to make such institutions more attractive for business transactions.
While at the port, Dr Bawumia interacted with Clearing Agents, workers at the Port, security and other officers, and ordinary Ghanaians anxious to clear their goods on time.
Speaking to the staff after his visit, the former deputy governor of the Bank of Ghana said the Akufo-Addo government would take steps to consolidate some of the functions at the port that interface with the public in order to reduce the frustrations of Agents and port users while plugging any revenue leakages.
The Tema Port is a major backbone of the country's revenue collection efforts, generating a significant percentage of annual domestic revenue.
