It is believed that recruits effected by the decision have fallen short of meeting the academic results required to enlist in the Ghana Police Service.

According to reports, some recruits enlisted at the National Police Training School in Accra, the Service's training schools in Kumasi, Ho, Koforudia, Pwalugu, and the Upper East Region will all be affected.

According to 3news.com, a letter written to the Commanding Officer of the Pwalugu Police Training School by COP Beatrice VIb-Sanziri, Director-General In charge of Human Resources, is reported to state that all recruits who only submitted their WASSCE certificates are to be referred to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) for further vetting.

On the other hand, all recruits who submitted their BECE, NVTI, NABTEX, and City and Guilds certificates are to be dismissed. One recruit apparently did not have any certificates at all. Over 830 recruits are said to have been effected in Pwalugu alone.

A list of all dismissed recruits is expected to be delivered at the Ghana Police Headquarters in Accra for "further action".
