President Nana Akufo-Addo has named a legal luminary - Akoto Ampaw, as special prosecutor and ministers are already expressing fear of him.
These newly appointed ministers revealed during their swearing into the president that they will do everything in their power to respect the special prosecutor.
“We’ve just been given copies of your first speech, I quickly read it and we are with you particularly on the issue of asserts declaration. We understand that we are public servants and Mr President we can assure you that we’ll be public servants. You mentioned in your speech about the Special Prosecutor…we’re afraid of the Special Prosecutor. I don’t know whether it’s by coincidence that as now Minister for Monitoring and Evaluation I happen to be chosen to respond on behalf of my colleagues. But I’ll want to respond on behalf of my colleagues that we thank you very much. On the first you met all of us we leant about the 3Cs…cooperation, candour and consensus. We assure you we’ll do all of that.” Minister of monitoring and evaluation, Dr Anthony Akoto Osei revealed to the president.
The special prosecutor is said to be an extension of the Attorney General's department.
