Gunshots are said to have erupted in Bimbilla in the Northern Region, following renewed chieftaincy clashes there.
Schools hurriedly closed down and parents hurried their kids home, according to a report by Accra-based Starr FM.
The violence, according to the report, broke when people attending a funeral fired gunshots into the air in line with tradition, a move that reportedly sparked confusion because of an existing ban on fire arms in the volatile area.
Other accounts of the violence said that gathering was meant to “illegally” install a sub-chief and the gunshots were meant to interrupt the process.
A house belonging to a sub-chief was set ablaze, the report said.
