President Nana Akufo-Addo has reiterated the NPP’s free SHS policy, stating that his government will from September 2017 implement the policy to the core.
According to Nana Addo, he will ensure that all the components of fees from secondary education are removed to give meaning to the free Senior High School policy.
Speaking at the 60th anniversary ceremony of Okuapeman School in Akropong Akuapem on Saturday, he opined that boarding fees, admission fees, library fees, examination fees and all the other charges along with tuition fee will be completely absorbed by the government.
“We [government] will fund the cost of public Senior High Schools for all those who qualify for entry from the 2017/2018 academic year onwards… so that no one in Ghana is left in any doubts.”
“By free SHS, we mean that, in addition to tuition which is already free, there will be no admission fees, no library fees, no science centre fees, no computer lab fees, no examination fees, no utility fees; there will be free textbooks, free boarding and free meals, and day students will get a meal at school for free," the President said.
