Over the years, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and its main rival, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) have used derogatory, and sometimes, funny expressions to troll each other.
Today, YEN delves into some of the popular expressions that often get people talking!
1. "NPP is an Akan party"
NDC supporters often loves to accuse NPP of being an Akan party, which does not welcome people from other tribes.
2. "NDC is an Ewe party"
Supporters of NPP often deem the NDC as an Ewe party, mainly because many of its supporters come from the Volta Region.
3. "NPP hates Northerners"
NDC politicians have always promoted the narrative that the NPP does not like Northerners. Ahead of the December 2016 election, former President Mahama said that he pitied Mahamudu Bawumia because the NPP would discard him after using him to their benefit.
4. "NDC voters are illiterates"
NPP supporters often make the argument that NDC voters are ill-informed and are mostly illiterates, something they say explains why those people keep voting for NDC.
5. "NPP has intellectuals and knows how to develop the country"
The NPP has often prided itself as a party with many intellectuals and a better party than the NDC when it comes to developing the country.
6. "NPP is an elitist party"
The NDC has often accused the NPP of being an elitist party that is often out of touch with the reality of the common man.
7. "NDC knows how to win elections"
Some NPP supporters like to argue that NDC is good at winning election, but is very poor at governing.
8. "NDC is for the common man"
The NDC likes to pride itself as a home for ordinary Ghanaians and the party that understands the plight of the common man.
9. "NPP is a two-region party"
NDC severely mocked the NPP after the party won just two regions - Ashanti and Eastern - in the 2012 presidential election. The party was soon nicknamed "NPP two regions".
