The move to hand couples free ‘rubber’ on the day is a move which the National Aids Control Council has termed as “Pleasure with Prevention”.

According to the Head National AIDS and STI control Programme Martin Sirengo, studded c*nd*ms will be distributed alongside ordinary ones for the simple fact that they enhance the experience between lovers.

He also cited the importance of safety even during valentines, from STIs and unwanted pregnancies.

“The new studded c*nd*ms are free. You don’t have to spend anything in comparison to the studded c*nd*ms in private companies. We also want people to be protected as they have pleasure,” Sirengo was quoted.

According to a report released by the Kenya Aids Progress in 2016, a significantly large number of youth ( aged between 15-24) constiututed the new infections statistics in the county- a statistic that prompted the government to take to free protection particularly among the youth at a time when ‘activity’ will be at an all-time high.
