Mrs. Catherine Afeku, the Minister for Tourism, Arts and Culture under the current Akufo-Addo led administration, has responded to criticism regarding her appointment of President Akufo-Addo's daughter to the Creative Arts Council.
According to the tourism minister, President Akufo-Addo's daughter is more than qualified to occupy position on the Creative Arts Council, and that critics of the appointment ought to be circumspect in their criticism.
Mrs. Afeku inaugurated the council on Wednesday, March 1st, 2017, in a short meeting in a conference room at the Ministry of Tourism.
Along with Miss Gyankroma Akufo-Addo, Mrs. Afeku also nominated Mark Okraku Mantey, a producer and programs manager at Hitz FM to preside over the council as its president.

Madam Afeku's appointment of the president's daughter has come under some criticism from members of the creative industry, who say that the appointment screams of nepotism and the likes. Other critics frown upon Miss Gyankroma Akufo-Addo's appointment due to the fact that she's relatively unknown in the industry.
Speaking in an interview on Joy News, Madam Afeku defused the criticism saying that all Ghanaian's are entitled to a job.
"President’s children have a right to work. It is [in] the Constitution and they are Ghanaians by birth, by right and her credentials speak volumes.”
“The people in the industry when they heard her were mesmerized that it is not just being a daughter of a president but [she] is passionate, she is very well respected in the industry worldwide and he has the credentials to back it.”
“I think we also need to stay away from this notion of if you are a child or a relative of a leader and you are qualified you cannot be given a position.
"I need to put it and put it very firmly that this is a sector that enjoins all creative people. She is extremely qualified and I am the one to work with her and not her father,” Madam Afeku reiterated.
