Tigo, Airtel join merge to become major telecom in Ghana

Ghana's telecom industry is expected to get much fierce and wild as major telecom giants, Tigo and Airtel have revealed plans to merge.

An exclusive report released by both Millicom International Cellular S.A and Bharti Airtel Limited shows that the purpose of the merger to improve the services of both operations.

What this means is that the merger will cover more than 80% of Ghana’s population with high-speed data, providing the widest 3G coverage across the country, and would have revenues close to $300m, making it one of the largest communications companies in Ghana.

So far, the exact name for the new merged Tigo and Airtel network is yet to be made known.
