According to reports, a livestock farmer identified as Segun Onagunwa, drowned inside a well on his farm while trying to rescue one of his goats.

The 42-year-old whose body was recovered at his farm on Joe Arubiewe Street, Mosan, in the Egbeda area of Lagos, had reportedly gone with his son to feed his goats and other poultry, when the sad incident occurred.

One of his goats had reportedly broken loose and fallen into the well, and Segun drowned while trying to bring it out with the aid of a ladder. His corpse was found floating and handed over to the police at the Gowon Estate Police Division.

Segun's son couldn't alert people to his father's predicament, as the gate to the farm was said to have been locked and the little boy couldn't reach it.

An emergency response official said:

He locked the gate from inside and the boy was unable to open the gate. His hand could not reach where the gate was locked. He was crying. It was his mother that eventually came when it was getting late.

She had called him, but his line rang out. She raised the alarm on getting to the farm in the evening and we were called to the scene. The man had spent a few hours in the well. Unfortunately, he was recovered dead. We had to remove a lot of water before we could locate his corpse in the well.
