Head porters made a surprise appearance at the 60th Independence Day celebrations in the Ashanti regional capital.

The porters, known as "kayayei" turned up to participate in the celebrations.
Their presence at the parade grounds with their pans reportedly took everyone present by surprise.
Adiza Zongo Pioneer, the leader of porters in the area, issued thanks to Ghana's president, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

She revealed that their appearance was a way of thanking the Akufo-Addo-led administration after it announced the scrapping of levies paid by kayayei in the 2017 budget read on Thursday March 2.
The giddy porter, expressed high optimism that the NPP government would be committed to helping them in their activities.
