The reason(s) for Nana Akufo-Addo failing to appear in the 60th anniversary cloth during the independence parade has finally been revealed.
Many Ghanaians had expected the president to be adorned in the new cloth but to their disappointment, it was never the case – a development which has raised questions over how committed the president is to promoting the image of Ghana.
But spokesperson of the Ghana at 60 planning committee, Jefferson Sackey has argued that the president meant no harm in the choice of his outfit. According to Jefferson Sackey, the president’s resolve to show up in smock was not “deliberate”.
“President Akufo-Addo’s decision not to wear the Ghana@60 cloth was not deliberate. The anniversary is a year long celebration and not a one day event and I know that subsequently, our President would definitely be in the Ghana@60 cloth for all to see.
Meanwhile the low patronage of the anniversary cloth has attracted concerns from Ghana’s local textile industries who argue that the 250 a yard cloth was too much expensive.
