Ghana petitioned to urgently implement anti-suicide policy

An expert in cases of suicides at the university of Ghana, Dr Joseph Osafo, says the increased rate at which Ghanaians are taking their lives needs a national intervention.

Just in the past week, close to three young persons have taken their lives under different conditions - a development which raises the concern of how mentally safe Ghanaians are.

"It is long overdue. In 2012 we sent a petition to Parliament to consider decriminalizing attempted suicide. We didn't hear what happened to that. What we have been trying to do is to disseminate knowledge so that people are empowered on what to do and what to look out for," he said.
