The deputy national organizer of the National Democratic Congress, Joshua Hamidu Akamba has demanded the ruling government give an account of budget allocated to the Ghana@60 celebrations.
He called on the planning committee for Ghana@60 to come forward with an account of their activities.
Mr Akamba was speaking on Rainbow FM, when he criticized the government's decision to allocate GHC 20 million towards the independence anniversary celebrations.
According to him, Ghana was not economically stable to fund such an expense and that the president should have taken inspiration from the president of Tanzania, who cancelled the country's independence day celebrations and opted to declare it a National Sanitation day.
It should be recalled that the president came under heavy criticism from different sides of the opposition after unveiling the Ghana@60 logo and announcing the GHC 20 million budget for the celebration.
According to President Akufo-Addo, the budget for the occasion would not only be supported by the state, but by the citizens as well.
However, Mr Akamba opined that there were more more pressing matters that the money could be have been used for, throwing a jab at the government that they had promised to efficiently utilize state funds.
