President Nana Akufo-Addo has appointed Abu Ramadan as the deputy director-general of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO).
Ramadan was a leading member of the People's National Convention, but defected to the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in December 2016.
He campaigned hard for Akufo-Addo and was instrumental in his defeat of John Mahama in the presidential election.
In the letter appointing Ramadan, Akufo-Addo congratulated him and asked him to accept or reject the appointment within 14 days.
In a Facebook post, Ramadan expressed gratitude to Akufo-Addo for the appointment.
The president earlier announced the appointment of Eric Nana Agyeman-Prempeh as the acting director-general of NADMO.
NADMO is responsible for the management of disasters as well as other emergencies in Ghana. The board operates under Ghana's Ministry of Interior.
It performs specific functions which are all aimed at ensuring that in times of emergency, the government is ready to support relief efforts
