Owusu Bempah was reacting to many opinions on social media and some public forums that have suggested that the rise in suicide cases in the country is due to alleged ritual sacrifices by the new government's leader before the 2016 elections.

Some persons have opined that the young girls committing suicide are as a result of Akufo-Addo's consultation with traditional gods for victory during his campaigns.

However Owusu Bempah debunks these claims.

He was speaking on Abusua FM, when he said, "People should leave Akufo Addo alone, he has nothing to do with the cases of suicide in the country. A lot of these young ones are practicing occultism in their schools and they never anticipate when an evil spirit will possess them and lure them into committing suicide…by the time they realize, they might have ended their lives."

Rev. Owusu Bempah further stated that the public must not be hasty in drawing conclusions on the issues, but should look at the spiritual aspects to which these tragedies occur.
