Former Black Stars midfielder, Michael Essien has signed a one-year deal with Indonesian top flight side Persib Bandung ahead of the 2017 season.

Essien's latest deal is worth a reported 800,000 euros a year and will also be the highest paid player in the Indonesian Liga 1.

Essien has been recruited as a marquee player by Persib and will have the option of extending his contract for a further year at the end of the 2017/2018 season depending on his performances.

The 34-year-old will wear the number five jersey for The Blue Prince (as Persib are nicknamed).

Former Chelsea cult hero, Essien will be officially unveiled today at a ceremony which coincides with the 84th-anniversary celebrations of Persib.
