Kennedy Agyapong, the member of parliament for Assin Central has said that civil servants top the list of corrupt officials, even above government appointees.
According to him, even though politicians are mostly accused of being corrupt, the civil servants in government are truly the officials in most incidents of corruption.
In a report by Mynewsgh.com, the businessman and politician said, "Go to most of the prominent settlements and estates in Ghana, most of the houses you see there are for these civil servants yet the politicians are accused of being corrupt."
He further indicated that the development of the country has been stifled due to the many acts of corruption since the beginning of Ghana's independence.
"It is not only NPP or NDC……Kwame Nkrumah did not expect this magnitude of corruption in the country we are witnessing today. We must all work towards cleansing the system," he remarked.
Mr Agyapong believes that civil servants connive with some politicians to steal funds from the state, into their personal coffers and he stated that it was high time these activities are brought to an end.
He therefore pledged to bring all corrupt officials to book, including exposing those who are members of his party.
He further stated that the New Patriotic Party would surely make mistakes, as all its promises cannot be fulfilled in one year. But he assured that there will be solutions to those mistakes once they emerge.
