FIFA has banned Ghana referee, Joseph Odartei Lamptey for life following investigations into a controversial penalty call for South Africa against Senegal in the 2018 Would Cup qualifier game.

The Ghanaian referee was found guilty of breaching Art. 69 par. 1 (unlawfully influencing match results) of the FIFA Disciplinary Code during the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia™ qualifying match between South Africa and Senegal on 12 November 2016.

The statement further added, all charges brought against another Ghanaian match official, David Lionheart Nii Lartey Laryea, has been dismissed.

“FIFA follows a zero-tolerance policy on match manipulation and is committed to protecting the integrity of football. As a result, FIFA will continue with its ongoing efforts to combat match manipulation through a variety of initiatives, which include the monitoring of international betting and a confidential reporting system with a dedicated integrity hotline and e-mail address,” the release said.

FIFA follows a zero-tolerance policy on match manipulation and is committed to protecting the integrity of football.
