Kintampo chief angry with Bawumia - Report

Traditional authorities in the Kintampo are said to be angry at Vice-President Mahamudu Bawumia for failing to meet them when he visited the town to commiserate with victims of the waterfalls disaster that occurred on Sunday.

About 20 tourists who were swimming at the base of the waterfall died when a tree fell on them.

Many of the victims were students of the Wenchi Senior High School.

When Bawumia visited he announced that government will bear the cost of treatment of the injured persons and the funeral expenses of the dead.

He said they waited for hours but the vice-president did not show up.

“So we were seated in our palace waiting for the Dr. Bawumia and his entourage to come so it can afford us opportunity to brief him the whole issue. We waited for hours only to hear on radio this morning that he has gone back to Accra, “ he said.

Effah, the report said, described Bawumia's failure to meet them as unacceptable.

“How come you be in a traditional home like this and refused to seek permission from us a custodians of the land?….This is uncalled for and we will want government to come with better explanation, ” he added.
