Zafar ad-Din, a 48 year old proud father of five, reportedly lost his eye sight in the Afghanistan wars. His head was hit by a bomb that nearly killed him.
In efforts to recover his sight, ad-Din sought treatment in Iran, but he was not successful. He had to accept his new condition and live with it.
He decided to return home after spending sometime in hospital. The ex-soldier and war veteran was left with no job after the misfortune. But he had five children to take care of. As a soldier, being defeated was not an option.
So ad-Din decided to start a small business. He started selling car parts. These included parts for buses, vans, Ford cars and those from Japan.
“It’s not difficult to identify the details. I do it with my fingers. At the moment I have a huge collection of the vehicle parts,” says ad-Din, who also admits he is fascinated by his new profession.

Considering that he is blind, ad-Din has a few people helping him. His nephew is the one who organises delivery of the goods. He also has a few others who he has entrusted with counting the cash after every transaction.
He says people are generally trustworthy to him and they respect his disability. However, he also admits that there are a few cases of conflicts.

“I once had a customer who bought car parts for a tractor. This client, after some time, brought me some parts claiming that I had deceived him. But when I touched the pieces, I felt they were covered with oil. The thing is, we sell new parts, which don’t have oil. That is how this customer’s evil intentions were revealed,” says ad-Din, adding that no one has ever managed or attempted to steal from him since that incident.
Besides his vehicle parts business, the blind man, who is today a billionaire, also spends sometime in the countryside where he raises cattle.
As they say, disability is not inability. Ad-Din has proven this to be very true.
