Over 300 remand prisoners freed in Ghana

The order from the supreme court follows a revealing and disturbing report by a journalist from Joy FM, Seth Kwame Boateng which showed how hundreds of remand prisoners have been left to their fate due to Ghana’s bureaucratic legal systems and difficulty in getting access to a lawyer.

The documentary, which was aired in 2015, saw the chief justice, Georgina Theodora Wood, storm the prisons service to ascertain the issues faced by most remand prisoners in the country.
