If there is any one to be happy in Ghana today, it definitely is the association of alcohol manufacturers and importers.
This association is so happy not for any reason but due to the fact that a new national alcohol policy has been launched by government.
This policy is aimed at strictly regulating the production, distribution, sale, advertisement and consumption of alcohol in Ghana – a development which will see the abuse of the good old beverage a thing of the past.
“For us as a member company, and we are 25 companies in the association, we believe that we have a responsibility to society to ensure that our brands are produced in a responsible manner and that also people who consume our products do so in a responsible manner. Therefore we think that if there is a policy in place, then it becomes binding on everybody else in the industry. For those who are also not our members, they would also apply the same yardstick that we members have applied to make it work.” the association revealed.
Alcohol abuse remains one of the leading causes of death among Ghana’s youthful population with others feared to be suffering from severe complications of chronic heart, kidney and liver diseases.
