YEN.com.gh has obtained a video in which the education minister and member of parliament for Manhyia South, Mathew Opoku-Prempeh, can seen and heard insulting another MP in the house.
In the video, which was captured when parliament debated the Mahama Ayariga bribery investigation last week, Opoku-Prempeh could be heard saying, "You are mad. You - you are mad", and firing other insults at an opposition MP, who is believed to be Alhassane Suhuyini, the MP for Tamale North.
It is not clear what prompted Opoku-Prempeh to insult Suhuyini, but the Tamale North MP could also be seen in the video gesticulating angrily and aggressively, prompting some of his colleagues in the house to restrain him.
Alhassane appeared to have been angered by the conclusion of the Joe Ghartey-led commission, which said that the allegation that Boakye Agyarko bribed some MPs with GHC3,000 each to facilitate his confirmation as energy minister was without merit.
The MP for Ningo-Pram Pram, Sam George, last week accused Opoku-Prempeh of calling him a fool and insulting Suhuyini too in parliament. But the education minister denied the accusation in a press statement.
With the video of him calling Suhuyini mad now going viral on social media, George took to Facebook on Monday morning to demand an apology.
"There is only one truth under the sun. I maintain that the minister for education and member of parliament for Manhyia South was untruthful when he denied insulting the hon. Alhassane Suhuyini, MP for Tamale North.
"I told the truth in my interview with Bernard Avle and the minister should apologize for being economical with the truth," he wrote.
