Alhassan Suhuyini, the Member of Parliament for Tamale North has stated that fellow members of parliament Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh and Ursula Owusu-Ekuful launched verbal attacks at him during last Thursday’s House sitting.
According to him, Dr Opoku Prempeh described him as a ‘mad’ man, while at the same time, Urusla Owusu-Ekuful lashed out at him.
Speaking on Class FM’s breakfast show on Monday, Mr Suhuyini said, “I told him [Dr Mathew Opoku Prempeh] that he was equally mad and that is when my colleagues came to calm me down. They didn’t think I should respond in like manner. He did it on purpose and that is why it was necessary I made him aware that he didn’t have monopoly over such conduct."
Mr Suhuyini stated that he was initially engaged in a heated disagreement with Dr Opuku Prempeh, when he realized Ursula had jumped in to hurl insults at him.
The entire debacle occurred during the debate on the report by the Joe Ghartey Committee on the bribery allegation against the Appointments committee.
The arguments were so intense, they almost led to physical altercations between legislators of both sides of the House.
Meanwhile the Speaker of Parliament is expected to deliver his full verdict on the bribery scandal today.
