Illegal mining in Ghana is feared to be taking a toll on the production and supply of electricity.
The electricity company of Ghana (ECG) says the menace was affecting electricity supply in the Eastern region. Eastern regional manager of ECG, Ing. Michael Baah reveals that two primary substations at Asamankese and Suhum have been destroyed by the scourge of the illegal practice.
Meanwhile, government has revealed plans to completely ban small-scale mining as part of efforts to clamp down on the menace – a development which has seen the Ghanaian media engaged to ensure that the battle against galamsey is fully eliminated.
