A civil society pressure group based in Tamale, Northern Youth for Peace and Development (NYUPED) is alleging that the Akufo-Addo government has sidelined Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.
The group in a statement said any efforts to undermine and downgrade the vice president like was done in the case of the late Alhaji Aliu Mahama as Vice President will not be countenanced.
“Other issues we wish to raise include the treatment being meted out to the Vice President, His Excellency Dr Alhaji Bawumia. The signals we have picked up so far indicate that the Vice President is quietly being sidelined by some forces from performing his duties as Vice President.
“Our organisation wants to caution. This time around, we would not sit down unconcerned for the Vice President to be made a ceremonial head and a [lame] duck as was done to the former Vice President, Alhaji Aliu Mahama. In fact, Alhaji Aliu Mahama was grossly disrespected as Vice President and that caused him his bid to become President of the Republic of Ghana,” the executive director of NYUPED, Prince Hardi Adams, said in a statement delivered at the conference held Wednesday by the organisation in Bolgatanga.
The group further warned that they will name and shame persons who are involved in trying to consign Dr Bawumia.
“If this sidelining game continues,” the organisation said. “We shall tell the world what is happening at the Flagstaff House and advise our people accordingly. The Northern Regions in recent years have been changing our votes in favour of the NPP.”
