- A Kenyan airport employee has been captured on camera demanding a bribe from a tourist
- The employee brazenly asks for KSh 5,000 (GHC207) before scaling the amount down to KSh 2,000 (GHC85)
It seems the cancer of corruption has permeated every echelon of our society including in our airports.
A recent video which has emerged online shows a Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) demanding for a bribe from a tourist after he confiscated her passport.
The KAA employee said to be from the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport had demanded for a KSh 5,000(GHC207) bribe but the woman and another man thought to be a broker complains saying the amount is too high.
As negotiations continue, the broker says the woman can only afford KSh 1,500 (GHC62) but the airport employee insists on KSh 2,000 (GHC85).
The tourist says she will fork out the money but only after she is given her passport.
" I do not want you messing up with my passport..I want it," she says even as the KAA employee says he is taking details from the document. He however gives out the passport.
The video has angered a section of Kenyans with some saying the KAA was aware of such cases but had turned a blind eye.
The Authority confirmed the man was its employee and promised to follow up on the matter
