The Member of Parliament for Lawra, and Deputy Minister for Roads and Highways Anthony Karbo, has made probably one of the most unusual suggestions that Ghanaians will ever hear from a statesman.
Mr. Karbo has asked that the government, as part of its one-district, one factory policy to consider a dog meat factory in the three northern regions which he said has the potential to generate additional revenue for the nation.
Aside Ghana, other notable countries that consume dog meat include South Korea, China, Vietnam and the Philippines and the dog meat industry is worth in excess of 2 billion dollars annually in South Korea.
The MP for Lawra is of the view Ghana should consider a dog meat factory for the export of the product.
“The dog is a delicacy and it is such a huge delicacy in Korea and China and it is an exportable product. There are dog hunters in Bolga who go around buying dogs and hunting for dogs.”
He made a further suggestion to supplement the dog meat factory suggestion saying that “we could have a cat factory in the Volta Region.”
