- The Coconut Grove Hotel has been gutted by fire
- Sections of the hotel building, including a branch of GN Bank are feared burnt
It was a breath taking event seeing part of the investments made by one of Ghana’s richest men – Dr Papa Kwesi Nduom, go up in flames.
The plush Coconut Grove Regency Hotel in Accra tasted a touch of hell when fire mercilessly gutted huge sections of the building which houses a branch of Dr. Nduom’s GN Bank and also one of his fleet of stations, Business Television Africa (BTA).
But what really has Nduom to lose from this unfortunate disaster? Such a business magnate with over 60 multinational establishments worth millions of dollars in revenue, Dr Nduom could just say to himself, “Well, it’s part of life, I will just have to make the best out of this disaster”.
The Coconut Grove Hotel has been established for over 20 years, YEN gathers. And out of these years, no incidence of fire has ever occurred. But being an astute politician and business man who even own a reputable insurance and reinsurance firm, there is no doubt in our minds that he, Dr Nduom, would be smiling to the bank by now.
Not to say the fire disaster means nothing to Dr Nduom because as committed as the business man remains to creating avenues of employment in Ghana, this disaster could be an setback. A setback in the sense that tens of workers at the very hotel which was gutted by fire may be asked to proceed on leave or better yet, get transferred to other fields of duty.
So far, the actual cause of the fire is yet to be made known as unconfirmed reports and other conspiracy theorists suggest it could have been an arson attack. But YEN will fill you in on the actual cause of the fire as officials of the fire service conduct their investigations.
