- Akufo-Addo announced the names of the nominees for the MMDCEs
- The named nominees have been met with outrage by NPP supporters across the country
- The NDC has said the outrage is due to the government's incompetence
The Northern Regional branch of the National Democratic Congress has blamed the conflict arising from the announcement of the 212 MMDCEs on the new government’s incompetence.
According to them, judging by the reactions of NPP supporters, the nominees for the district chief executive positions clearly do not possess the right qualities to take up such positions.
In a report by 3news.com, the Northern Regional Secretary of the NDC, Tanko Komputer posited, that the government is currently facing backlash from their party supporters because the chief executive nominees selected were not the best pick of the lot to fill the positions.
“It is the NPP that is destroying Tamale, else Tamale is cool. What is happening is a departure from their promise because they promised to vote the DCE but they have failed that is why people are agitated,” he said.
He further stated that the NPP had shown the highest disrespect to the chiefs in the community, since they did not engage the traditional rulers in their decisions.
Tanko Komputer’s comments follow the recent disagreements and acts of violence by NPP supporters across the country, over the nominations of 212 Metropolitan Municipal District Chief Executives.
Some areas have witnessed destruction of property, and the burning of tyres
On Wednesday, after an illegally staged demonstration in Sagnerigu, 11 people were arrested in connection the demonstration but were later allegedly granted bail by the Northern Regional Police commander.
However, the commander, ACP Adusei Sarpong denied releasing the suspects through the urging of the region’s NPP chairman
