A touching picture has gone viral online showing a kind waiter at a popular restaurant chain in Springfield, Illinois feeding a disabled customer so that she and her husband can enjoy their breakfast.
Keisha Dotson, a customer at an IHOP outlet took a picture, took a picture of 43-year-old Joe Thomas feeding the disabled customer and posted it on IHOP's Facebook page, from where it has since gone viral.
In her post, Keisha said: "Today…I witnessed a very touching moment involving one of your servers. A man and disabled woman were dining, and your server sat down with them and proceeded to help feed the disabled woman while her companion enjoyed his food. My faith in humanity has been restored a little today."
Speaking to a local media outlet, Joe said he was only doing what he could to help, adding that he was raised to be kind and compassionate to all people regardless of their condition, status or race.
Joe added that the customer and her husband are regulars at the restaurant and that her husband usually has to feed her because she has the paralyzing Huntington's Disease, but his food gets cold as a result. On this occasion, he decided to step in so they could both enjoy their meal.
He also said that while it's good that the picture has gone viral and many are commending him, he does not do kind deeds for recognition but because it's the right thing to do. He further revealed that he has received a job offer to work as a nurse.
Regular customers as well as Joe's co-workers have commended him for his politeness, kindness and generosity. They also say he has an incredible work ethic.
