- Rapper Medikal received seven nominations prior to this year's VGMA awards ceremony night
- Regardless of his nominations, Medikal did not receive a single award
- He has revealed that he was surprised when he didn't win a single award
Rapper Medikal has finally spoken out regarding his inability to clinch a single award at the 2017 Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA) ceremony.
Prior to this year’s edition of the VGMA many who are finely tuned to Ghana’s music industry were convinced that the rapper would win multiple awards, coupled with the coveted Artist of the Year Award.
Having received seven nominations (Afropop Song of the Year, Hiphop Song of the Year, Hiplife/HipHop Artiste of the Year, Best Rapper of the Year, Best Collaboration of the Year, Best New Artiste of the Year and Artiste of the Year), many where totally shocked at the artist’s dismal performance at the awards ceremony.
Speaking on the Delay Show, the artist confessed that even though he didn’t actually expect to win all seven categories, he did – at least – expect a massive victory.

“To be frank, I was expecting to win big. I don’t know how many I thought I would win but we were going for win. It didn’t go that way,” he said.
Responding to a question asking if he was prepared for the outcome he saw at this year’s VGMA, the rapper responded to the affirmative.
“Of course. I’m prepared for anything; both negative and positive.” He said.
Recently a board member of the VGMA awards, Mr. Nii Ayi Tagoe, disclosed that the rapper only received 13 votes from the general public in support of his New Artist of the Year nomination. Mr. Tagoe hit back at VGMA critics, saying that people who expect Medikal to win didn’t go out and vote for him.
“The people who made noise for these artistes on social media didn’t really go out to vote. Medikal had 13 votes from the general public for the New Artiste of the Year category,” he said.
