- The presidency reveals Nana Addo is currently in the Republic of Togo
The fight against illegal small scale mining still wages on as president, Nana Akufo Addo, heads for the republics of Togo and Ivory Coast to begin talks on the menace of illegal mining.
Sources close to the presidency claim that the president will be concentrating on how various water bodies are being affected by illegal miners in the country.
Nana Addo’s visit follows an earlier courtesy call on him by a delegation from Ivory Coast over the menace of galamsey.
So far, government has launched a fierce campaign against illegal small scale mining with the media used as the main channel of the campaign. But even as the campaign rages on, stakeholders in the sector of clean water production fear an imminent shutdown of major water plants across the country as they complain of effects of galamsey on Ghana’s water bodies.
Ghana is not alone in the fight against illegal small scale mining as Israel, US and also China have committed to putting an end to the menace.
