YEN.com.gh has learnt that a sect on the National Democratic Congress wants the daughter of the first leader of the party to be given a presidential shot.
A former member of the Council of State in former president John Mahama, Nana Adjei Ampofo, has urged to appoint Dr. Zanetor Rawlings as running mate to the party’s presidential candidate for the 2020 elections.
The request to choose Member of Parliament (MP) for Klottey-Korle as running mate comes way ahead of the NDC primary to elect a flagbearer.
According to Mr. Ampofo, the Zanetor Rawlings would be the best choice to partner the next presidential candidate of the NDC to win the 2020 elections. He believed that one of the reasons why the NDC lost favor with the electorate in the 2016 elections was due to the lack of a Rawlings in the party.
Nana Ampofo, a former Omanhene of the Goaso Traditional Area in the Brong Ahafo region said, she [Zanetor] would represent the 'Rawlings factor' in the NDC. "The Rawlings issue will be solved once Dr Rawlings becomes the running mate," he said.
Over the past weeks, the NDC has been riddled with various media reports of different possible presidential candidates to lead the party in the 2020 General Elections.
However, the Kwesi Botchway-led committee that was set up by the NDC to investigate the defeat in 2016 has reportedly barred John Mahama from leading the party in 2020.
