President Nana Akufo-Addo has appointed Freddie Blay, the acting chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), as the chairman of the board of the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC).
Other members of the newly constituted board are Dr K. K. Sarpong, managing director of GNPC; Mr Kwabena Kwakye, a radio show host at Oman FM; Naa Prof J. S. Nabilla, a former president of the National House of Chiefs; and Wulugu Naba.
The rest are Mr Yaw Kyei, Nana Adwoa Hackman, and Ogyeahohoᴐ Yaw Gyebi II, the paramount chief of Sefwi Anhwiaso and president of the Western Regional House of Chiefs.
The letter appointing the board was signed by the chief of staff, Madam Akosua Osei Opare, and addressed to the minister of energy, Boakye Agarko.
The chief of staff advised the minister to swear the board members in as soon as possible.
Freddie Blay was instrumental in helping the NPP win the 2016 general elections.
He took over as party chairman at a time that the party was rocked by severe internal strife and steered the party to a solid victory in the elections.
