President Nana Akufo-Addo has appointed Kwabena Kwakye, the host of Boiling Point political talk programme on Accra-based Oman FM,, to the board of the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC).
Boiling Point was one of the most popular and effective platforms through which the New Patriotic Party (NPP)'s sent out its political messages when the party was in opposition.
The radio programme was instrumental in helping the party rally its supporter ahead of the election.
Kwakye is also a panel member on the Oman FM morning show and occasionally hosts the programme when the regular anchor, Fiifi Boafo, is not available.
News of his appointment was met with mockery by some social media users who say he is unqualified for the position.
Others merely expressed disbelief at the news.
Akufo-Addo also appointed Freddie Blay, the acting chairman of the NPP, as the board chairman of GNPC.
Other members of the board are Naa Prof J. S. Nabilla, the former president of the National House of Chiefs; Mr Yaw Kyei; Nana Adwoa Hackman; and Ogyeahohoᴐ Yaw Gyebi II, the paramount chief of Sefwi Anhwiaso and the president of the Western Regional House of Chiefs.
The letter appointing the board was signed by the chief of staff, Madam Akosua Osei Opare, and addressed to the minister of energy, Boakye Agarko.
The chief of staff advised the minister to swear the board members in as soon as possible.
