President Nana Akufo-Addo has appointed Frances Essiam as the chief executive officer (CEO) of the Ghana Cylinder Manufacturing Company (GCMC).
Essiam's appointment was confirmed by the minister for energy, Boakye Agarko.
She has been a member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP)'s communications team for years.
Having defected to the NPP from the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Essiam has been one of the most vociferous female supporters of the party.
She was instrumental in helping the NPP and Akufo-Addo win the 2016 general elections.
In 2012, she contested the parliamentary election at the Adentan Constituency but lost to NDC's Emmanuel Nii Ashe Moore.
In 2016, she was defeated in primaries by incumbent MP for Adentan, Yaw Buaben Asamoah.
Akufo-Addo continues to reward those who helped him win the elections by appointing them to various government ministries.
He also appointed Kwabena Kwakye, a radio show host at Oman FM, to the GNPC board.
Other member of the board are: Naa Prof J. S. Nabilla, a former president of the National House of Chiefs, Mr Yaw Kyei, Nana Adwoa Hackman, and Ogyeahohoᴐ Yaw Gyebi II, the paramount chief of Sefwi Anhwiaso and president of the Western Regional House of Chiefs.
