These young black women out to help other women thrive in business (photos)

- The young, ambitious and beautiful black women want to change Forbes' narrative

- They have come together to help black women build Fortune 500 companies

As the year began, Forbes magazine revealed, in its report, that there was no single woman of colour who owned any of the Fortune 500 companies. This report got some black women in the business world concerned.

Lauren Bealore felt that the there was a glaring lack of representation of businesses run by black women in the media. This pushed her to swing into action.

She teamed up with her friends Brittany Colston and Courtney Griffin to change the media narrative that black women in business had not done enough to warrant recognition among the Fortunes 500 companies.

The team of three is behind the fast-growing Young, Ambitious and Beautiful (YAB), a non-profit organisation that seeks to help women prosper in business.

The organization’s operations involves mentoring adult women that need help growing and building their companies and networks.

“It helps women owned businesses that have applied and received entry to the programme in three main areas: Business and Development, Community Engagement and Mentorship, and Personal Development. We each have an area that's befitting of where our personal careers lie," says Bealore.

YAB currently serves some 30 venture partners and has build a community of 3000 people. Their next agenda is to reach out to more women entrepreneurs in towns and cities across the world.

Additionally, the organisation strives to support the next generation of women entrepreneurs by funding their college education. This, however, only applies to women who are interested in pursuing business as a career.

"I know part of our goals is to be able to give out more scholarships. We have so far been able to give out two scholarships.We plan to give out four scholarships this year," says Bealore.
