- Dismissed Ridge Hospital Medical Director demands reasons for his dismissal
- He says without a reason he will not vacate his post.
- He said Medical Directors are not appointed by Ministers or Director Generals of GHS
Dr. Thomas Anaba, Medical Director of the former Ridge Hospital now dubbed the Greater Accra Regional Hospital, has stated that he will not vacate his post unless he's told the reason for his dismissal by the Health Minister.
Dr. Anaba, appointed by the erstwhile Mahama led administration in February of 2016, was supposed to retain his position for four years but has ended up only spending a little over a year in office.
Due to the absence of any reason for his dismissal, it seems as Dr. Anaba has decided to put up a little resistance from the directive given him. The medical practitioner, along with the Public Services Commission, vehemently disagree with the Ministers somewhat arbitrary decision to dismiss the regional hospital's head.
Speaking in an interview with Starr News, Dr. Anaba referred to the minister's decision to remove him from office as an abuse of power. He further stated that he would not vacate his office or hand over the reigns of the hospital to his successor, Dr. Emmanuel Kwabla Srofenyoh (who the minister already appointed).
“They said I should hand over immediately and I can’t take two hours to hand over immediately because this is not a small project I’m managing. There are several things I have to tell the incoming director,” said the embattled medical practitioner.

He further stated he would wait for a reason for dismissal while he prepared to handover his position to the new Director, but also accused the Health Minister and the Director General of the Ghana Health Service (GHS) of following their own "selfish interests".
“However, I have requested for explanations why they dismissed me while I’m planning to either handover if they want or I continue. Medical directors are not appointed by Director Generals or Ministers. They are appointed by a Council and we don’t have a Council and besides you have to be interviewed.
“So if he is using him as a director then this is an abhorrent situation in this moment. You see I’m going to put this hospital at the hands of this man just because of people’s self-interest – the minister and the director general because they are the people who don’t want Anaba to work here… do they have a reason. It’s just abuse of power,” Dr. Anaba said.
