- Leading communications officer under Mahama is calling for corrupt officials of NDC to be jailed
- Ben Dotse has justified his statement saying all corrupt practices are cases against the law
No one would have thought that any official in a former administration would call for appointees which they served to be jailed in cases of state-funded corruption.
This was the exact position of a communications expert was formerly under ex-president Mahama. Ben Dotsei in a fierce response to issues to corruption raised by one blogger named Kwame Gyan argues that “corrupt officials under whichever political office be punished “.
“Anyone who stole Ghana's money in the NDC administration must be called to account. Money stolen from the people must be returned to the people. Corruption in any form and by anyone is deadly in the long run to our people and disastrous for our quest to achieve rapid progress,” excerpts of his Facebook post read.
Corruption in Ghana remains one of the greatest impediments to growth and economic stability. This saw the establishment of the Serious Fraud Office (SFO) under the Mills administration which transfigured to the Economic and organized crime office (EOCO).
But the situation of politicians being jailed for corrupt practices have not just been described as “political witch-hunt” by affected political leaders but also analyzed by political analysts as the move by incumbent governments to flex their muscles against their main opponents.
A similar situation was with the case involving the former CEO of the GNPC, Tsatsu Tsikata who got indicted and jailed for having caused financial loss to the state. The arrest of Tsatsu Tsikata led to the “free Tsatsu Now” movement which subsequently led to his freedom by the former president – John Kuffuor.
