This honour given Rawlings follows his ability to have established and developed the Upper West region during the PNDC era in the 80’s. The title given Jerry Rawlings translates as “a rock that cannot be harmed people by surrounding it”.

“Even in times of crisis, you never turned your back against us, and we think this is the only way to recognize your contributions to our development,” a representative of the Guli Traditional Area, Naa Seidu Braimah revealed.

Jerry Rawlings received this title just a day after his fiery speech to mark the June 4 revolution. The president has condemned the high level of corruption in the party and thus called for “fresh leadership” should party members be keen on winning power in the 2020 elections.

So far, it remains unknown what Jerry Rawlings meant by “fresh leadership” but YEN gathers that the NDC founder may have considered having some other persons in place of John Mahama and his former administration to lead the party in the 2020 elections.

Just after the disappointing defeat of the NDC, party members constituted the “Kwesi Botchway committee” with the urge and thirst to figure out what exactly may have caused their defeat in the 2016 elections. The committee, has meanwhile revealed among other things that corruption, abuse of incumbency and arrogance led to their defeat.
