- Nana Addo has assured all BECE candidates of government’s resolve to provide free SHS
- Over 400,000 candidates are so far sitting the BECE exams this year
President of the republic, Nana Akufo-Addo is assuring candidates of the ongoing Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) of free tuition once they qualify for placement at the various senior high schools.
A tweet by the president did not only assure all 480,000 candidates of free SHS but also saw Nana Addo extend his well wishes to them.
So far, a total of 468,053 candidates have registered, and are expected to sit for this year’s exams across the country.
Meanwhile, a statement from the Ghana Education Service (GES) has cautioned students to do away with examination malpractices during the exercise. Teachers were also warned to desist from making any dubious moves during the examinations.
Government’s flagship free SHS program is expected to fall in place come September 2017. What this means is that students will not be made to pay fees regarding admission, library, science resource among others.
But in the wake of this mouth watering assurance, the education minister, Matthew Opoku Prempeh has disclosed that the Free SHS policy will be only applicable to students who have excelled at their studies.
