- The police officers were seen in recording extorting the cash at both sides of the road at the check point
- The officers numbering more than five were engaging in the act in a broad day with impunity
In a time when the leadership of the Ghana Police Service is pulling all strings in order to build and restore public confidence in the Service, some unscrupulous men in uniform are also armed to the teeth; determined to drag the name of the service into mud.
A secret video recording circulating on social media is causing a outrage among many Ghanaians especially on Facebook.
The video footage, which was recorded by a road user in a car, clearly caught some police officers on both sides of the road engaged in open display of power, by extorting physical cash from commercial drivers with impunity.
Though the location of the video is not yet known, it is believed to have been recorded at a busy police check point within the Accra municipality.
Although this is not new to many road users, what makes it more annoying is how the officers only take interest in extorting the cash, ignoring their core safety duties on the road.
One can also see from the video, the officers leaving private drivers off the hook whiles they pin down their commercial counterparts till they offer the ‘daily rituals’
This is not the first time police officers have been caught on camera taking bribes; the police hierarchy seems to be losing the fight in weeding out bad men in uniform from soiling the image of the service.

Many security and political analysts have attributed the recent mob justices to the loss of confidence in the security services, especially the police.
