Former president John Mahama has attended the burial of the late Major Maxwell Mahama at the forecourt of the State House in Accra.
Former President Mahama looked to be in pain as he filed past the remains of his late nephew.
The former president was one the top dignitaries who attended the burial service to pay their last respects to the soldier, whose death has shocked the nation.
The burial service precedes the interment of the late soldier at the military section of the Osu cemetery on Friday.
Former president Mahama, who has promised to take care of the Major Mahama's children, bowed as he came face-to-face with the remains of the late army officer.
Major Mahama was killed by a mob at Denkyira Obuasi, which reportedly mistook him for a criminal after some women in the community spotted his official pistol.
The killing sparked public condemnation and outrage, prompted many Ghanaians to call for an end to mob justice.
At least 40 people who reportedly took part in his lynching have been arrested.
